Domestic abuse is classed any type of controlling, bullying, threatening or violent behaviour between couples in a relationship. Abusive relationships can tear families apart, especially when children are involved. Children witnessing domestic abuse is child abuse, as it can really have a negative effect on their mental health.

 

The following types of abuse include:

  • Physical

  • Emotional

  • Psychological

  • Sexual

  • Financial

It is also important to remember:

  • Abuse can happen anywhere, inside and outside the house.

  • It can happen over the phone, on the internet and on any social networking sites.

  • It can happen in any relationship and can continue even after the relationship has ended.

  • Both men and women can be either abused or the abuser themselves.

Covid-19 has created a huge negative impact on society. It has affected the Domestic Abuse victims more than anyone, due to the fact couples are isolated together and there is no way out. The government acknowledges that coronavirus household isolation instructions can cause anxiety for those who are experiencing or feel at risk of domestic abuse. There is never an excuse for violence, no matter what the circumstances are. Household isolation instructions as a result of coronavirus do not apply if you need to leave your home to escape Domestic Abuse.
